Based on John Van Druten’s play I Am a Camera and the stories of Christopher Isherwood. Directed & Choreographed by Adam Estes. Exploring the relationships of a young American writer and his English muse, a Jewish greengrocer widower and a German widow, and an ensemble of memorable characters, this twelve-time Tony Winning “Best Musical” remembers the cultural explosions and political clashes in Berlin as the 1920s come to a close. With memorable numbers including “Willkommen,” “Don’t Tell Mama,” and “Two Ladies,” CABARET reminds us that even during a tumultuous and heartbreaking era, life is beautiful.

“At once intoxicating and sobering, Cabaret is one hell of a bash.” – Time Out New York

“…The world’s alltime most famous nightclub, Cabaret continues to show that it was built to last.” – The Guardian

Whether you are accomplished at line dancing or have never ventured onto the dance floor with all those who seem to know what they are doing, you don’t want to miss this evening! Several different line dances will be taught throughout the evening so the more proficient dancers can practice and brush up while the novices will get started. Do you need a partner? Absolutely not!

NEW EVENT!!! Join your friends for fellowship and come meet an extraordinary member of Vail Club 50! Within our Club we have fascinating members that we are going to feature. Vail Club 50 seeks them out and we encourage them to share their life experiences with Vail Club 50 members in an informal setting.

Our first presenter for this series is Paullette MacDougal, an accomplished playwright. The title of her Conversation for this evening is: Confessions of a “non-apologetic” Corporate Wife. Paullette and her husband Frank have been members of Vail Club 50 for many years. Their summers are spent in our glorious Vail Valley and winters in Austin, Texas.

Paullette’s resume is expansive. She has a MFA from Columbia University, Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of Wisconsin. She was Co-founder and Artistic Director of Paradox Players, Austin, Texas and the list continues.

After writing for the screen, Paullette turned to stage plays, which has been her main interest for several decades. As a film writer and playwright, Paullette’s work has garnered awards nationally and internationally. And along the way, Paullette authored a health book and taught yoga. Her current writing project is called WHAT’S NEXT? It’s a drama about Life and Afterlife.

Singing has always been a passion from early childhood to even today. Currently, in honor or dishonor of the current election year, Paullette and a friend assembled a musical revue parody (strictly non-partisan). They perform it under the title “Fractured Politics”.

Cocktails, yummy food and stimulating conversation provide the agenda for this unique evening! Invite your friends and members to join you and come meet Paulette and her husband.

The great annual Bikefest is coming up. The two ride options are described above. The Donovan station will be staffed from 10 am – 3 pm and the Vail Pass station from 11 am – 2 pm. A sag wagon will be available: contact Michele at 970.401.4020. The rides will begin at the Singletree Community Center.

Sunday, September 11:
Depart Vail Valley at 10 am to arrive in Grand Junction at approximately noon. You can go to your hotel right down town or go straight to Powderhorn ski area for some afternoon riding and/or hiking. If you would like to ride the lift up to the top of the mountain and ride or hike down is $20. This has been figured into the estimated costs of the trip. We will enjoy the afternoon on the mountain, have some snacks and beverages on the deck (BYO).

As we head back to Grand Junction, our hotels are right in Grand Junction’s charming downtown area so we can walk to restaurants and other attractions. We have 10 rooms reserved at The Hampton Inn by Hilton and The Spring Hill Suites by Marriott. The rate is approximately $162 per night per room which includes tax and parking. Each hotel has a pool and breakfast is included. A table has been reserved for us all at Il Bistro, Grand Junction’s delicious Italian restaurant where items range on the menu from $4 – $25. We will be on our own for lunch and then meet at 4p at Peach Street Distillers in Palisade for a private tour and tasting of all their custom spirits. At 5p we will be off to the Vineyards for a wine tasting. We will have a cook out dinner on the National Monument at the Devils Kitchen picnic area to watch the sunset and enjoy the view. There are grills and a covered shelter at this site. For dinner, we will shop in the afternoon so all will have what they desire for dinner. The cost for dinner and park fees have also been figured into the estimated costs for the trip.

Tuesday, September 13:
Breakfast at the hotel and then off again for your choice of hiking, biking, wine tasting, fresh peaches at the orchards, visit the lavender fields on the mesa, shopping or whatever you would like to do with your time in the area. Enjoy lunch on your own in any of the many options in town.

We will meet up at 1:30 for a float trip on the Colorado river from Palisade to Grand Junction. We will have rafts, kayaks and stand up paddle boards with instruction. The total time will be approximately 4 hours. A cooler and ice is provided and you can bring whatever beverages you desire. The fee for the trip is $40 per person and has also been figured in the estimated trip costs.

For dinner, we have arranged a beer tasting and dinner at the Rockslide Brew Pub a few doors down from the hotels. Estimate about $30 per person (at the most) for the evening based on what you choose for dinner from the menu. If you like Fish and Chips – that is their specialty on Tuesday’s and it is yummy! After dinner, we can find some live music and close the evening.
