Tennessee Pass Cookhouse Lunch: Monday, December 5, 2011

Start the snowshoe/x-country season with a trip to the Tennessee Cookhouse. Meet at the Ski Cooper Nordic Center at 11:15 for a one-mile snowshoe or ski through the woods to a remote mountain setting for a choice of sumptuous lunches for $20. Après Ski Party: Colorado Ski Museum – Vail
Tuesday, December 6, 2011 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Kick off the 2011-2012 winter downhill season at the wonderful Colorado Ski Museum (located in the Vail Village parking structure). Thanks to our chair, Judy Carson, we again explore vintage skis, period ski garments and the history of our sport while partaking of hors d’oeuvres and sipping wine, beer or soft drinks. Snowmass Ski Trip
Monday-Wednesday, December 12-14, 2011

Enjoy early snow conditions while staying December 12 & 13 at the Snowmass Mountain Chalet. The rates are the same as last year – $125/night per room including hot breakfast and soup lunch, plus a wine reception on Monday at 4:30 p.m. with hot and cold hors d’oeuvres. On Tuesday, December 13, our après ski party will be held in the lunchroom at 4:30 p.m. Please bring something to share and your own beverage. Seniors who often ski at Aspen may wish to purchase an Escape Pass for $199 and then pay $22 per day. Holiday Gala
Sunday, December 18, 2011 Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort 6:00-10:30 p.m.

Join us for Vail Club 50’s most elegant and popular event of the year! We will enjoy a festive evening at the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort for this black tie (optional) event. The band, Soiree, a high-energy dance band, with a full rhythm section and two dynamic front singers who are recording artists, make this band unlike any other. The band will provide easy listening during dinner and high-energy dance music to keep the party going.

Check-in and a cash bar with begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Dinner includes: wedge salad with blue cheese, bacon, tomato brioche croutons with chef’s choice of dressing to be on the side, rolls and butter, choice of: churrasco grilled flat iron steak, caramelized onion smashed potatoes, braised Brussels sprouts, or stuffed chicken with prosciutto, spinach and fontina cheese, or strozzapreti pasta with acorn squash, spinach, pine nuts and sage. Dessert will be cinnamon apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. Please indicate your dinner choice when making your reservation.

There will be valet parking for $14 and other underground parking at Beaver Creek. Table assignments will be made only after check-in. New Year’s Day Brunch

Don’t stay up too late celebrating so that you can join us to welcome in the New Year with a brunch at the Balata’s. Brunch is an array of items including Eggs Benedict; mimosas and other drinks can be purchased. Big screen TVs are prevalent so watching the football games is an additional feature of the brunch. New Members’ Party

This event is for new VC 50 members who joined for the first time in 2011 and have not yet attended a new members’ party. This cocktail party is hosted by Dale and Jeanne Mosier at the Singletree Community Center. Meet the Vail Club 50 Board of Directors, our activity and event leaders, share interests, and enjoy some quality social time. We will get together at 6:30 for hors d’oeuvres. Winter Park Ski/Snowshoe Trip
Tuesday – Thursday, January 10 – 12, 2012
Arlberg Club, Winter Park

Come on this trip and enjoy the comfort of the private ski-in, ski-out at the Arlberg Club in Winter Park. Join us for 3 days of skiing and snowshoeing. You arrive Tuesday morning, park at the club and start your day. Lunch will be served that day and appetizers and dinner that night. Three meals on Wednesday and breakfast on Thursday are included. Bring your own alcoholic beverages. A hot tub and sauna are available. The club has 22 private rooms with baths. There is a large gathering room, dining room and kitchen (staffed). The per-person price for the trip is the same as last year; $277.50 for lodging and 6 meals. Your check is your reservation. Snowcat Skiing on Vail Pass
January 20, 2012
8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Calling all adrenalin junkies to join us for a day of “off -piste skiing” on Vail Pass. The day will start around 8:30 a.m. at Vail Pass and go to approximately 4:30 p.m. We will proceed to a yurt about a 20-minute cat ride from Vail Pass to be fitted with deep powder skis and avalanche beacons before heading off to enjoy the powder on “Machine Gun Ridge.” There is room for 12 on the cat and we will get a full refund if snow conditions are unfavorable. Movie Evening
Monday, January 23, 2012 7:00 – 9:30 p.m.

Enjoy a movie and discuss it at a host’s home. The movie can be a new one or an old favorite. To be a host, plan to have seating capacity for 8 or more around a TV that can play a DVD. We will need a volunteer in each group who will bring a DVD and be prepared to discuss the movie. The other guests will bring drinks and munchies. The Europa Galante will present Baroque favorites by Bach, Handel Vivaldi & Haydn. The group was formed more than 20 years ago by renowned violinist and Braque specialist Fabio Biondi. The group’s period instruments provide a unified and appealing sound. Europa Galante has received two Grammy Award nominations; their recording of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons has sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide. The ensemble has performed on stage at many of the world’s major concert halls and theaters. Vail Club 50 members will be offered 2 for 1 tickets ($55) for this upcoming event. Super Bowl XLVI

Are you ready for some football? Come enjoy Super Bowl XLVI with your Vail Club 50 friends. Your favorite team may be playing for the Lombardi Trophy this year. The Gore Creek Brewery in Edwards will be our site with great seating, TVs and food. The Super Bowl Party starts at 3 p.m. An appetizer buffet will be served until half time. Dinner fit for a Super Bowl Champion will then be served. Betting pools will also be available for those with extra cash.

The cost for this event is $25.00 for members and $39.00 for guests. Alcoholic beverages, including beer and wine specials, are not included.

As we all think about Valentine’s Day, what better activity than the play, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” at the Brush Creek Pavilion in Eagle Ranch. The cost of $40 for members and $45 for nonmembers includes the performance, dinner (choice of meat dish, fish entrée or a vegetarian choice), plus dessert and coffee, three drink tickets for your choice of wine (red or white), beer or soft drink and, of course, the show. Doors will be open at 6 and dinner will be served at 6:30. Dessert will be served during intermission. Since this will be a sell-out, reserve early and the latest by January 27. 5th Annual Vail 50 Ski Race
February 23, 2012 (tentative) Vail

Join us at the Black Forest Race Arena February 23 to see who (if anyone) can unseat Adelle Picking and John Bailey for bragging rights as the “Fastest Woman and Man Alive” (well, maybe Fastest Man and Woman over 50). This event is really a great pretext to have a party afterward so come join us. Rumor has it that Robert Redford was there last year in his Downhill Racer garb. Wine and Dine Evening
Sunday, March 4, 2012 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Touch base with old friends and make new ones while enjoying a delicious dinner. The host provides the venue house, sets the table for 6 or 8 (or the number that the host designates), orchestrates the menu and, if the host wishes, also prepares a course. Hosts who want to theme the evening and focus on food from a specific country can make suggestions to the guests (perhaps also providing recipes for the dishes). Guests are assigned to a home and contacted by the host; they bring the course requested by the host (appetizer, entrée, salad or dessert) and a bottle of wine or other drink to share. Everyone is encouraged to participate (singles too). Ski Treasure Hunt
Tuesday, March 6, 2012 Vail Mountain, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Join us for this fun and exciting event at Vail. All the runs are blue or green, but you must be a blue skier to participate. Meet by 9 a.m. to find your assigned team and attend a brief meeting for further instructions. You will be out the door at 9:30 ready to follow the clues. Après ski starts at 2:30 with a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres. Information on the meeting place and restaurant will be provided at a later date. Make your reservations early. The check deadline is February 15. Cost for members will be $20 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Bowling Party, March 12, 2012, 6 to 8 p.m.
Bol Vail – Solaris Hotel

Join us for a casual evening of bowling at bol in Vail. The price is $30 for members and $42 for non-members and includes shoes and food. Plan to arrive by 6 p.m. so you can pick-up your team assignments, bowling shoes and ball, and take a few practice shots before we begin bowling promptly at 6:30. Once again Colorado’s Best Caller, Bear Miller will teach and sing out the moves as we dance the Squares at the Eagle- Vail Pavilion.
