Cross Country Skiing 2012

Cross Country Skiing – Opening Friday, January 6, 2012

As we approach our 4th season, our cross-country group continues to grow in numbers and enthusiasm. We’ll ski
on Fridays this year. Our outings average 5 miles and usually take about 3-4 hours. Our first ski on January 6 will be the Mineral Belt Trail in Leadville. On January 13, we’ll go to Mayflower Gulch just beyond Copper Mountain. Both of these outings are suitable for beginners. If snow conditions permit, we may ski earlier in the season.

No special equipment is needed for our events other than cross-country skis that can be rented at the Vail or Beaver Creek Nordic Center or Alpine Quest in Edwards. Please remember, our terrain is more suited to wider cross-country skis than those used for “track” skiing at Nordic Centers. Telemark skis can also be used.

The remaining schedule will be posted on the Vail Club 50 website later this fall. In addition, an email will be sent to those that have expressed an interest in the program. Please email Helena Leslie at hglnyc@aol.com if you do not receive information.

We look forward to a wonderful season and hope to see you out there!
