Edwards Elementary School parking lot.
Directions to meeting location: Going West on Hgwy 6 passing Edwards, you’ll see Lake Creek Road about 1.5 miles on your left ( right if driving from the west ), Turn onto Lake Creek Road and the school is about a block or so up on your left. We will carpool up to the trailhead as there is limited parking there.
Starting at the East Lake Creek trailhead, this magnificent hiking trail, which is practically all tree shaded, will take us through pines, extensive, beautiful aspen forests and an amazing, vast section of huge ferns. After reaching 9,000 feet at a very manageable moderate pace, our total elevation gain will only have covered 904 feet. At that point, the trail drops to a small pond and then a bridge that crosses East Lake Creek where we reach an open valley for a lunch/snack break or at the creek before heading back to trailhead. Please note that parts of the trail are narrow, plenty of ups and downs with short stretches of climb, especially on the return trip. Hiking poles are highly recommended. We will return by the exact route we started and the distance is 2 miles each way. The trail is rated moderate too easy in parts. There are a few small stream crossings. Plan for an early afternoon return to the school parking area. Interesting to share is the Colorado Trail Foundation in 2014 established a volunteer trail clearing and maintenance program called Adopt –a- Trail. Through Robin Wagner’s initiative, Vail Club 50 has participated by adopting this same East Lake Creek trail with over 30 members volunteering You will clearly be impressed when you see how well this trail has now been immaculately cleared and maintained by those in our organization.
Please be on time to the meeting place. Please let the leader know ASAP if your plans to attend have changed
