Ski Touring - McCoy Park Up Down and All Around

Realize that there are inherent risks when venturing into the backcountry.  Although VC50 outings are not planned in steep, high avalanche-risk terrain, any slope, regardless of its angle, has the potential to slough or slide. Thus, by signing up for these outings, you accept and acknowledge these inherent risks.

Meeting Time: 9:00am
End Time:  Roughly 1:00pm

Rendezvous location: In front of Nordic Center by Strawberry Park lift at Beaver Creek
Parking location:  Beaver Creek -- $10 paid parking in Bear or Elk lots and then ride the free bus up to BC.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL:  This trip is suitable for those with Touring experience. There will be some portions of the ski with moderately steep downhill sections that may be powder or hard packed.

Mitch Hayne

Event DescriptionJoin us to ski on the trails around the edges of the new McCoy Park area of Beaver Creek. We will xcski down and around the McCoy bowl and also use the Strawberry and McCoy Express chairlifts. Terrain will be a mix of rolling, flat, and steeper downhill sections. Bring a snack or lunch to eat at the Eaton Haus hut or picnic tables; there are also limited snacks available at the hut.We will return to the Strawberry lift to take that down to the Nordic Center.

Required Equipment: Skis with fish scales or some other grip system required.  Metal edges are strongly recommended but not required for this ski. Track skis are not appropriate.
Skins are not recommended due to the rolling terrain.
