March 2020

Dear Vail Club 50 Members

What a crazy year it has been so far.  Our winter started off as one of the best ever.  All of our winter sports and social events were either over sold or close to it.  The snow conditions for winter sports were excellent.   Our volunteers were amazing in bringing our members fun events and great value.  Everything was great until it came to a screeching halt due to COVID-19.

For the safety of our members, we had no choice but to cancel all remaining sports and social events as of March 14th.  Anyone who prepaid for a cancelled event is provided a credit that can be applied and used for a future Club event or for renewing membership dues.  Fortunately, all our cancelled venues worked with us to minimize the Club cost for cancelled events.  I want to personally thank all the volunteers who planned events which were subsequently cancelled.

As we comply with social distancing, those  who remain in the Eagle River Valley can still enjoy the beautiful Rocky Mountains.  We have fresh air, beautiful scenery and many outdoor activities. I urge you to get outdoors and safely enjoy the springtime.

In the meantime, our volunteers are eagerly planning for summer activities.  We are hopeful that social distancing will no longer be necessary by the time June rolls around.
If you are interested in leading a summer sports event, check your email from the Club dated March 15, 2020 that explains how to sign up virtually to lead a sports event.  It is easy and efficient.  I just signed up to lead two hikes and two road bike events.  I have already pumped up my tires and taken a spin on my road bike.  The deadline to sign up is April 1.  Should you miss the deadline and still want to lead an event,  contact the respective sports coordinator, who will help you find a date to lead a summer sport event.

Our social volunteers are planning for fun summer events.  Keep checking your emails and the “Upcoming Events” page on our website for updates.

The success of our club depends upon our volunteers.  We have no paid staff.  I am thrilled to see our volunteers enjoy organizing events, deal with our website and membership and volunteer to serve on our Board of Directors.  We are always looking for more eager volunteers to add value to our Club.  Please let me know if you wish to volunteer.

Please keep safe, healthy and optimistic.
